Welcome to Sandwich Medical Practice
Sandwich Medical Practice is a progressive GP surgery based in the heart of Sandwich, Kent. Established in 2019 through the merger of The Market Place and The Butchery surgeries, we are proud to be part of the Deal & Sandwich Primary Care Network, working closely with neighbouring practices to care for our local community.
Rated “Good” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), we offer a wide range of services for patients of all ages. As a training practice, we also support GP trainees, doctors, nursing and medical students as they gain experience and develop their skills.
From September 2025, we have introduced the NHS Modern General Practice Model, which is designed to make it easier, safer, and more efficient for patients to access the care they need.
Our team is friendly, approachable, and committed to providing compassionate, patient-centred care for everyone in our community.
Please ignore any appointments showing on your NHS or Patient Access app after submitting an Anima request - the practice will contact you directly.
Anima - Digital Front Door
The way you access your GP has changed as we move to the NHS Modern General Practice Model, which is being used successfully by many GP surgeries nationwide.
ALL appointment requests must now be made via Anima - this includes both urgent AND routine requests, this is open 8:00AM-6:30PM.
Please note that appointments with our Healthcare Assistants and Nurses for services such as blood tests, ECGs, cervical screening, blood pressure checks, contraceptive reviews, asthma and COPD reviews, B12 injections, and flu or covid vaccinations can still be booked by visiting the surgery or contacting us by phone.
If you are unsure, please speak to a member of our team who will be happy to help you - we are here to support you with this change.
Appointment Statistics - January 2026
In January 2026, we delivered a total of 7,758 appointments, compared with January 2025—prior to the introduction of Anima Total Triage—this represents an increase of 1,891 appointments.
Of the 7,758 appointments delivered:
-
3,693 were face-to-face
-
3,787 were telephone consultations
-
104 were home visits
Unfortunately, 313 appointments were not attended. Missed appointments reduce availability for other patients and result in wasted clinical time and NHS resources within a system already under significant pressure.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. This allows us to use clinical time efficiently and, where possible, offer the appointment to another patient.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to provide the best possible service for all patients.
Opening Times
Important: Upcoming Staff Training Afternoons (PLT)
- Wednesday, 25th February, 2026
- Thursday, 26th March, 2026
A Protected Learning Time (PLT) day is when the surgery closes for an afternoon to allow the entire practice team — GPs, nurses, and administrative staff — to take part in professional development and training. These sessions are important because they support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all staff and help us to improve the quality and safety of patient care.
On PLT days, the surgery will be closed from 1:00PM. Patients with urgent medical needs during this time should contact the Out of Hours or Urgent Care Service by calling NHS 111. In a medical emergency, always dial 999.
